Chamber recognizes local businesses at gala

By Becky GINOS LAYTON—It was a night to gather and honor those who are making a difference in the county at the Davis Chamber of Commerce 2018 Business Awards Banquet held last Friday night at the Davis Conference Center. Each year, the chamber selects a winner in the categories of Innovation, Employer of the Year, Small Business of the Year and Business of the Year. They also give the Legacy Award to an “individual or company that has positively impacted the county, sustained over years.” Former commissioner John Petroff, Jr., who retired last year, was the recipient, having served on the commission since 2009 and two terms as mayor of West Point City prior to that. Widely known as “JP” Petroff has served on several community and regional councils to assist in making a better life for Davis County residents. “JP served on my board for 15 years, 10 of those as chair,” said Nathan Rich, Executive Director of Wasatch Integrated Waste Management. “Working with him has been one of my greatest pleasures. He is humble, has great common sense, and is hardworking, honest and understanding. Basically, he is what most of us aspire to be.” The winners in each category were: Innovation: Klymit Employer of the Year: Ogden Clinic Small Business of the Year: Mindfire Technology Business of the Year: Lakeview Hospital Klymit is an adventure company focused on helping people enjoy real comfort when they sleep outside.
