Aulene Cushing Egan

Aulene Cushing Egan, best friend and wife of Carl Hatch Egan, angel mother of Alan, Linda and John, amazing grandmother, and great grandmother passed away on January 26, 2018 at the home of her daughter, Linda.  She was born in Monticello, New York on March 18, 1924 to James Henry Cushing, Sr. and Jane Ellen Mulligan.  Perhaps because she was a child of the “great depression” she treasured beautiful things.  When she was four years old, her mother was killed in an automobile accident.  Her 66 year old grandmother Olena Amelia Cushing took over the care of the five grandchildren. Mom loved and admired her.

Aulene grew up in Bountiful, graduating from Davis High School where she met the handsome Carl Egan.  World War II broke out and Carl went to war as a fighter pilot.  Before Carl was sent overseas, he got leave and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple on July 2, 1943.

Aulene was a perfectionist.  Her house was always clean, her meals were delicious and every calling she had in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was done to the best of her abilities.  She served as ward and stake Relief Society President, Primary President, and many other callings.  She was an ordinance worker in the Salt Lake Temple.  She loved being a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.  She was chosen to be Bountiful’s Mother of the Year in 2008.

She loved to travel.  As soon as she, Carl, and Alan got home from a trip, she was planning the next one. She loved family get-togethers, especially birthdays and holidays, which were always held at her house.   She taught her grandchildren how to cook, sew, decorate, be creative, and have confidence in their abilities. She loved working at Mrs. Cavanaugh’s Chocolates.  We loved to visit her and get a sample.  She left a legacy of charity, patience, kindness, and exemplified Christ’s love.  We will miss her hugs, her generosity and sweet spirit, but will not forget her example of a true follower of Jesus Christ.

She is survived by her daughter Linda Mangel (Steve) and family and John (Trish) and family.  Carl, Alan, her parents, and her siblings were anxiously waiting for her in heaven.
