Richard “Dick” Smalley will celebrate his 80th birthday this month. He was raised in Bedminster New Jersey and migrated to Utah as his military service brought him to Hill Air Force Base. He served in the Air Force for 27 years and retired as a Master Sergeant. He graduated from the University of Utah and is still a die-hard Ute fan as he tries to catch as many games as he can on TV. Shortly after arriving in Utah he met the love of his life, Charlene Smalley, and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple in 1971. His retirement has given him the opportunity to volunteer several times a week at the Leonardo museum, the Salt Lake City library, and the Bountiful Arts Center. He has also had a lifelong love of animals and volunteers at the Utah Animal Adoption Center. He enjoys spending his spare time with his children and grandchildren and a day doesn’t go by that he doesn’t miss his dearly departed wife who passed away in 2004. We love you Dad and look forward to celebrating many more wonderful years with you.
