America First Credit Union to Help Utah Consumers Protect Personal Information and De-clutter files with Free Shred Saturday June 16 in Bountiful—Shred and Enter Endless Summer Sweepstakes BOUNTIFUL, UT – JUNE 11, 2012 – America First Credit Union (AFCU) invites consumers and businesses to once again take advantage of its free shred day at four branches on Saturday, June 16 from 9 a.m. to noon. In Bountiful, the public can watch their documents being shredded and see the Jeep Wrangler they could win by entering America First’s Endless Summer of Giveaways Sweepstakes. These events are offered quarterly by America First as a free public service to people who would like to have their private documents shredded, but may not have a safe, efficient way to properly dispose of them. “We encourage people to take the opportunity to finish their spring cleaning by gathering their old or unused documents and come to one of our four free shredding locations,” said John Lund, executive vice president at America First. “It is a liberating feeling watching these unneeded documents be shredded. This is a great way to stay organized and evaluate how much personal information is available, so you can have more peace of mind.” America First will have shredding stations at the following branches on June 16: •Taylorsville—2715 West 5400 South •The Market at Park City— 1500 Snow Creek Drive •Bountiful— 48 North 500 West •American Fork— 611 West Pacific Drive (Highway 89) America First recommends taking a bag or box and labeling it “shred” as you begin to de-clutter and better protect personal identity. Regarding the type of documents people should shred, America First experts suggest collecting account statements, pay stubs, outdated identification, old tax returns and credit card offers—anything that holds entire or partial account numbers and other personal information. Tax returns, because they have Social Security Numbers, should be closely guarded and then shredded after three to four years. Statistics show that identity theft continues to be among the fastest-growing crimes in the world. “This is also a good time to opt in to receive online account statements,” says Lund. America First asks everyone coming to shred to remember: •There is no limit to the amount of paper you can bring •Ensure there are no large binder clips on papers •Staples and paper clips can be shredded •You can stay and watch your personal papers be shredded
