Myrtle Bernice Gapinski, 97, passed away Thursday, May 9, 2013 in Bountiful.

She was born January 7, 1916, in Winter Quarters, Utah, the daughter of Charles Peter and Mary Elizabeth Andersen. She grew up in Winter Quarters, until they moved to Ogden, Utah because a coal mining accident had left her father unable to work in the mines. After eighth grade, her education suddenly stopped because her parents’ illnesses required that she had to work to help provide for the family. At 15 the family moved to Salt Lake City and while there, Bernice met and married Wesley Gapinski.

She has always been a hard worker and always liked to help people and serve others. Her main interest has always been her family. Her grandchildren all have fond memories of spending quality time with Grandma. She also liked to travel and visit new places.

She is survived by her children; Paul Douglas Gapinski (Linda, Centerville; Carol Bangerter (Ron) and Charles Scott Gapinski (Charlene), West Bountiful; 22 grandchildren, 78 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Doris Raddatz of Salt Lake City.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at the West Bountiful 1st Ward, 311 N. 800 W. Friends may visit with family on Monday, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary 727 N. 400 E. and from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, prior to the services. Condolences may be shared at
