LAYTON – A 4-year-old boy with special needs was left alone curbside by a Davis School District bus driver on Tuesday, Jan. 28.
Davis School District spokesperson Chris Williams confirmed that the boy spent about 20 minutes to a half-hour outside before his mother arrived home.
Williams said the substitute driver made a mistake, and should have taken the boy back to school, where his parents could be notified.
According to Williams, school ended earlier than the boy’s mother thought – due to parent-teacher conferences being held that week.
The mother discovered the boy waiting in the cold.
“She was upset and rightfully so,” said Williams. “There’s no excuse for this.”
Williams said the driver acknowledged his error and apologized to the family.
All bus drivers will get a reminder of district policy, according to Williams.
