Carl Clayton will celebrate his 80th birthday. Friends and family may attend an open house in his honor from 1 to 5 p.m. on Feb 16 at the Clayton home 829 N. 200 West, Sunset.

He was born Feb 16, 1934 to Roy and Ione Wallberg Clayton. He was raised in Salt Lake City and Clearfield. He was an ambitious young man and began working at an early age in the yards and gardens of his neighbors. He also ran a newspaper route at the Clearfield Navy Base during WWII where he became a favorite at the military offices, and a friendly young face to the servicemen.

His favorite pastime was and still is the game of baseball. He began playing baseball with his childhood friends in the local little leagues, and then went on to play for the Davis High Darts, the semi-pro teams in southern California, the Lackland Air Force Base War Hawks, and the Brigham Young University Cougars.

He graduated from Davis High School in 1952. He graduated from Brigham Young University in 1962 with a bachelors degree in physical education. He taught PE, health, and math at North Davis Jr. High for over 34 years. He also coached baseball, football, basketball, and track at the junior high where his young athletes were his pride and joy. He was thrilled to watch them go on to excel in the high school, college, and professional arenas.

He married his high school sweetheart Ora Mann on March 18, 1953 in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints Salt Lake Temple. Their daughters and spouses are Robin and Joseph Driggs, and Rainee and Jonathan Browning. They have ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
