- They didn't know.
- They were so sure that your family was okay.
- They had confidence in you, not realizing that you were being bombarded by images that you couldn't handle and that changed how you thought.
- They didn't realize the quickness of addiction.
- They didn't realize the shame involved so you didn't confide in them.
- They didn't realize all families were affected because of society's impact.
- They refused to learn about such a terrible thing that they were sure didn't affect you.
I personally get totally frustrated at how people walk away from this subject. Some even think "I" am overly concerned and push too hard on this. The families who are affected don't feel this way, but the other families are like "sitting ducks" waiting to be hit.
The truth is that pictures teach, whether they are on television, video games, in magazines, etc. Pornographers care only about the money they make. They don't care about your family relationships and your children. As Judith Reisman stated in her testimony before the U.S. Senate Committee on this subject, "Pornographers are coloring our perceptions of women, marriage, intimacy, etc." They are taking their perverted ideas and setting them forth as free speech and "normal." She states that men involved in pornography lose their ability to perform in their marriage like a "normal" male. They have to use pornography images to be able to do so, states Judith Reisman. Most don't realize what they have lost (Conversation, Judith Reisman, Legacy Law Foundation Conference, March 31, 2006).
We have a First Amendment right to speak out politely in the public world and ask for decency. I say "politely" because anger and frustration don't work. A corporate public relations manager told me that they just throw the angry letters away because they know that person is overboard and not reasonable.
And the subtlety with which society is going down makes me shudder. Good leadership is lacking from good people and the children suffer the consequences. I have become aware of a book available in a local school library that a seven-year-old boy checked out every week and passed around to his friends because it had mermaids that were lifelike and nude from the waist up. This makes me realize again how unknowledgeable we are. Sexual feelings are being turned on at ages young boys should not have to handle.
Where are the protectors of children? If they are not in the home or the library or on an administrative level, then it is the pornographers and those already desensitized and sucked into their low level of standards that are in control of the emotions and minds of our children. Dr.Alfred Kinsey proved that children have sexual feelings if they are exposed to sexual material. Sexual material is available in commercials on television, in video games, sometimes in news broadcasts, in books, in magazines and on the Internet.
May we wake up to what is happening to our children and guard our homes and communities. One elementary school principal said they had had about 50 instances of pornography problems on their school ground this year. I submit that if they discovered only 50, there were many more that were not discovered. Children are being taught to act and dress in sexual ways because of what they see and experience.
