SALT LAKE CITY — Davis County residents who use mass transit will need to have a little extra change in their pockets on Monday.

Bus, FrontRunner and TRAX fares are going up on Monday, April 1. It is the last of three incremental increases first approved by Utah Transit Authority’s board of directors in 2011.

Bus riders system-wide will see a 15-cent increase in the adult cash fare from $2.35 to $2.50. Those holding an adult monthly pass will see the fare increase from $78.50 to $83.75, and a day pass will go from $5.75 to $6.25.

FrontRunner and Express bus riders will also see fare hikes. The base fare will go from $2.35 to $2.50, with each additional station costing 60 cents more, up from 55 cents. The maximum fair will be $10.30, up from $10.

The premium monthly pass will go up $11 to $198.

Group passes will be $15, up from $14.

“We’ve been trying to get the word out about the fare increases,” said Chad Saley, UTA spokesman. Those who purchase monthly passes have likely already  purchased their April pass and have paid the higher fare.

The hike is the last of the planned hikes, Saley said. There are no more planned for the foreseeable future, Saley said. A 25-cent fuel surcharge won’t go into effect until gas prices reach $4 per gallon.

UTA February figures show an average daily ridership on FrontRunner at 13,469 system-wide and 79,181 trips on buses system-wide, Saley said. Raw data was not provided.

According to senate bill 12, which passed both houses during the recent 2013 session, the agency will not have to make the raw data about ridership public.
