LAYTON — Alexis Bennett was one of 12 students honored recently for an anti-violence essay, in the Twelfth Annual “Do the Write Thing” Challenge sponsored by the National Campaign to Stop Youth Violence.

Seventh and eighth grade students were invited to write how violence has affected their lives and what they can do to prevent violence in their community.

More that 1,400 students submitted essays this year and the 12 winners were honored at a luncheon in the Utah State Capitol Rotunda.

The competition is sponsored nationally by the Kuwait-America Foundation and on a state level by the Utah Board of Juvenile Justice.
