LAYTON — Layton Police Det. Scott Byington has been elected president of the Utah chapter of the National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators.

The association is a non-profit organization that facilitates training between law enforcers, healthcare professionals, state regulatory agencies and drug makers to prevent and investigate abuse, according to a Layton police press release.

Byington has 15 years’ experience with the department. In addition to his work as a detective, Byington worked with the Metro Narcotics Unit in 2010.

In 2012, Byington was the first pharmaceutical officer to receive the Rocky Mountain High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Drug Enforcement Officer of the Year award.
