BOUNTIFUL — A strong singing voice and the good humor of Farmington mayor Scott Harbertson entertained the Bountiful City Council on Tuesday night before it started discussing ordinances, developments and the city budget.
Harbertson, an enthusiastic BYU fan, lost a bet to Bountiful Councilwoman Beth Holbrooke, a Utah fan, when BYU lost its recent game against its in-state rival.
To pay up, Harbertson sang the Ute Fight Song wearing a Utah jersey and a big grin. The mayor’s rich baritone carried him through the tune until he made a sheepish expression and crooned, “I will be ‘til I die,” in a high-pitched whine.
Councilmembers and the audience laughed and cheered at the performance, and later ate a bright white and blue cake emblazoned with the BYU logo
Unfortunately, Bountiful Mayor Joe Johnson missed the performance due to recovery from minor surgery.
