BOUNTIFUL — Getting to the Olympics is a dream come true for athletes.
But for Bountiful native Jake Gibb, his dream has come true again. He was named one of five Utahns to represent the U.S. in this year’s Summer Olympic Games in London, England.
Gibb, along with Arielle Martin of Cedar Hills (BMX), Jillian Camarena-Williams of Provo (track and field), Logan Tom of Salt Lake City (volleyball) and Shalaya Kipp of Millcreek (track and field) were each congratulated by U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, as Utahns representing the U.S. in the summer games.
“Ten years ago Utah hosted Olympians from around the world for the 2002 Winter Games, and this year Utahns will be cheering on our friends and neighbors as they represent our country in the 2012 Summer Games in London,” Hatch said. “I’m incredibly proud of these five great athletes and representatives of our great country, and wish them well as they pursue their dreams this summer to become Olympic champions.”
Gibb also represented the state of Utah and the United States four years ago in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. Gibb and Sean Rosenthal, his teammate at the time, ended up losing out on an Olympic medal when they lost to Brazil 2-0 in the medal round quarterfinals.
The Olympic Games start on Friday, July 27.
