WOODS CROSS —   Little Tatum Gines couldn’t wait to get to the hospital to be born.

He arrived Saturday morning in his father’s truck in the middle of the intersection at 400 North and 500 West, according to Bountiful police dispatchers.

Early Saturday morning, mom Heather Gines awoke with contractions, according to an ABC4 news report. They rapidly intensified and, within 10 minutes, were unbearable, Heather told a reporter.

Heather woke up her husband Kayson and they headed for a hospital in Salt Lake City.  Before the couple even got out of Bountiful, Heather told Kayson she could feel him. That’s when Kayson reached over and could feel his head. 

Kayson called 911, but it was too late.

“Barely a push and he was here,” Heather said. “He just pulled him out and put him on my chest and we were both in shock, Heather said from a hospital bed at Lakeview Hospital

Kayson said his instincts kicked when he realized the umbilical cord was wrapped around the baby’s neck, and he reached over and quickly removed it, helping his son to breathe. 

South Davis Metro Fire Agency Jeff Bassett said the baby was born by time emergency crews arrived. An entry on the agency’s Facebook page congratulates the couple, emergency personnel and Kayson “who did an awesome job under pressure.”

Friends kidded the couple, suggesting they name the boy “Chevy,” but the couple picked Tatum instead.
