LAYTON — Embarking on “The Love Boat” will be the theme behind this year’s Davis County Gala evening.

Those taking an imaginary cruise will likely benefit the Boys & Girls Club beginnings, which plans to open a Davis County location within the year.

The Sept. 5 event will take place at the Davis Conference Center in Layton. The hall will be transformed  to be reminiscent of the old TV program “The Love Boat.”

The black tie/best dress event will feature entertainment by the VooDoo Orchestra.

The orchestra brings back the energy jump swing of the 30s and 40s. Rat Pack swagger incorporates a dynamic entertainment conspiracy performed by top-flight musicians who “faithfully celebrate the music and style of one of America’s gold ages,” a press release from the gala committee said.

“A lot of folks are great fans of this orchestra. They come highly recommended,”  said County Commissioner Louenda Downs. “They ought to be perfect entertainment. You get a big band on a cruise ship.”

The Boys & Girls Club  is starting its major Davis County push with a club in Layton.

Davis County Commissioner Louenda Downs said that the committee was strongly considering the Boys & Girls Club as its charity recipient from the gala. The club needs $100,000 to open its doors.

Several sites in Layton are being considered, including the old National Guard armory adjacent to Central Davis Junior High School.

Currently, there is a limited Boys & Girls Club after-school program at North Layton Junior High School.

Organizers hope the program, which initially would run for several hours after school each weekday, would start in the fall.

About 100 Layton children could be served initially, but organizers hope the program would later be expanded, they said.

Downs emphasized the Boys & Girls Club program may start in Layton but see expansion to other parts of the county.

Gala single tickets are $150 per plate or tables starting at $1,500. For more information or to RSVP, call 801-451-3231 or email
