BOUNTIFULThe Viewmont Vikings and Bountiful Braves boys’ soccer teams were the only south Davis County teams to qualify for the 4A and 5A state soccer tournament.

But after Friday’s quarterfinal games were completed, the Vikings lost to Lehi 4-2.

Bountiful advanced to the semi-finals, where they triumphed over Murray.

Braves advance to Thursday’s final

In one of the craziest playoff games of the year, Bountiful was able to comeback from a halftime deficit against Murray to advance to Thursday’s 4A championship game at Rio Tinto Stadium.

Bountiful, which found itself down 3-2 after the first half, scored the game-tying goal in the second half to push the game to overtime. Bountiful won a shoot-out 5-4 and advanced to the finals.

Garrett Rydalch, Jake Haddock and Tristan Booth scored single goals for Bountiful in the win.

The Braves will face Orem, which won 1-0 in the earlier semi-final game, Thursday at 7 p.m.

Viewmont ousted after quarterfinal loss to Lehi

After finishing the season with a 7-2-1 record and a No. 2 seeding in the State 5A playoffs, the Vikings boys’ soccer team took apart future Region 1 opponent Fremont on its way to a quarterfinal matchup with the Lehi Pioneers.

In a high scoring affair, Lehi’s pair of second half goals was enough to knock off the Vikings and end Viewmont’s run at the state title.

The first half of the match ended with the score deadlocked at 2-2 С Mike Johnson and Zach Beckman scored Viewmont’s first-half goals.

From there, however, the Vikings were held in check. The Pioneers netted a pair of second half goals С including one in the closing moments of the second half С to oust Viewmont for the season.

It was Johnson’s 10th and final goal of the season. Beckman scored his third of the season for Viewmont.

Season wrap-up

Defending 5A champion Davis, which failed to make the playoffs after dropping a play-in game to Northridge, finished the season at 8-7 and was 5-5 in Region 1.

Viewmont’s 7-2-1 mark was good enough for second in its final season in Region 2. The Vikings will move back to Region 1 next season.

Woods Cross didn’t qualify for the State 4A playoffs, and ended the season with a 4-10 record, 3-7 in Region 6.
