Braves grapplers place seventh at Skyhawk

BOUNTIFUL – The Bountiful Braves wrestling team had a strong start to its season last week against East, shutting out the Leopards and placing seventh at the Skyhawk Showdown tournament last week.

The team’s win over East came via shutout, 82-0. 

Bradley Dyer, Colton Bringard, Jeff Adams, Sergio Rodriguez, Preston Watton, McKay Pettit, Hayden Brown, Lee Freestone and Jono Kimmings each earned six points by pinning their respective opponents.

Lamar Gimmeson won via tech fall, beating Jhonny Carrero 20-5 in the 152-pound match. Zach Walker won a major decision 15-4 over Carlos Martinez in the 120-pound match, and Garrett Maxwell, Jadyn Carter, and Braden Short each won via forfeit.

At the Skyhawk Showdown, the Braves earned a seventh place finish out of 16 teams. 

Individually, Connor Arvidson won the 138-pound weight class after beating Orem’s Nate Mella. 

Dyer finished in third place, his only loss coming against Juab’s Jesse Ballow.

Gimmeson also finished the tournament with only one loss, placing second at the 152 pound class.

Freestone placed second at 285 pounds.

 

Upcoming matches

Bountiful will face Clearfield at home on Thursday, and Woods Cross will host Highland before heading to Roy High School for the Royal Duals on Friday and Saturday.

The Darts will head to Morgan High School to participate in the Morgan Duals on Friday and Saturday.

Viewmont will face Northridge on Thursday, Dec. 19 before hosting the Viewmont Invitational next Friday and Saturday.
