DRAPER — For Bountiful coach Lou Plank, the final 10 minutes of the 4A girls’ soccer semi-final game were nerve-racking.
However, Jenny Skedros’ goal in the 18th minute, combined by a solid Braves defense, gave Bountiful all the scoring it needed as the team took down Skyline 1-0 at Juan Diego Catholic High School Tuesday night.
“We got away from ourselves during those last few minutes,” said Plank, who will be heading to his first finals appearance with the Braves since 2008. “They got a lot of open opportunities, we slipped a little and had a couple scares, but we got back together and got back to controlling the ball and were able to pick up the win.”
The only goal in the 80-minute match came off the foot of Jenny Skedros, who got a fortunate bounce off the crossbar after her first shot attempt. On the rebound, Skedros’ shot bounced off the hands of Skyline’s goal keeper, hit the ground and spun forward for the goal.
“It felt really good to play the style of soccer that we were able to,” Plank said.
