KAYSVILLE — The defending State 5A boys’ soccer champions may not have a chance to defend their title at all.
During their second-to-last game, the Davis Darts picked up a win last Thursday against Northridge, barely keeping the teams’ slim playoff hopes alive.
Bountiful, which already has the region title, finished the season Tuesday afternoon against Woods Cross.
The Vikings, who picked up an important win against Kearns last Friday, will also make the playoffs from Region 2 after picking up their third win in four games overall.
Darts beat Northridge 2-0, but still need help to reach playoffs
The Davis Darts’ win over Northridge last Thursday was a much-needed one. Davis shut out the Knights 2-0 to snap a three-game losing streak.
Despite the win, the Darts will need to beat Weber Thursday and hope for losses by Fremont or Northridge to force a three-way tie for the final playoff spot in Region 1.
Davis kicks off against the Warriors a 3:30 p.m. at home.
Braves beat Clearfield 3-1 for Region 6 crown
Coming off a tough 2-2 tie against East, the Braves boys’ soccer team picked up its eighth win in nine games on Friday by taking down Clearfield 3-1.
The win gave the Braves the Region 6 title outright, even before the team faced off against Woods Cross in the season finale.
The team is ranked No. 2 among 4A teams in the state.
Wildcats lost to Highland, out of playoff picture
The Woods Cross Wildcats had an outside chance of reaching the 4A playoffs, but lost to the Rams 3-2 last Friday and fell out of playoff contention entirely.
Coming off a solid win over Clearfield, Woods Cross found itself down 2-1 at halftime to the Rams. Ethan Cope knocked in his second goal of the game in the second half to tie, but Highland scored in the closing minutes to pull off the win.
Viewmont gets important win to secure playoff spot
The Vikings boys’ soccer team beat the Kearns Cougars 5-1 last Friday, giving the Vikings three wins in four games and a guaranteed playoff spot.
Mark Macklyn scored two of Viewmont’s five goals overall, and the Vikings scored three first-half goals to pull away from Kearns early.
Macklyn was one of four goal-scorers for Viewmont С Braxton Bassett, Mike Johnson and Zach Evans also scored.
After wrapping up the regular season, the 4A and 5A soccer playoffs will start on Tuesday, May 14.
