FARMINGTON — Robert Santos Cruz, the man caught coming out of Clare B. Niederhauser’s home on Jan. 31, was sentenced last week to serve up to five years in the Utah State Prison.
Cruz, 48, of Layton, pleaded guilty to a third-degree felony charge of burglary.
On Jan. 31 Neiderhauser came home and found a car parked in his driveway with two occupants inside. Cruz was standing in his doorway holding a pry bar, and then Niederhauser fired shots.
As officers arrived, Cruz ran toward the home’ backyard. Niederhauser chased Cruz and fired a single shot into the field behind the home.
Officers then located and arrested Cruz without incident. He was not armed.
