BOUNTIFUL — Lucas Cawley was barely starting to get his feet wet a few years ago as he attempted to make it into professional soccer.

Now, the soon-to-be junior from Bountiful is continuing his dream in Arizona as part of the Real Salt Lake Academy, where he has been battling with other top soccer athletes as he continues his battle to become a professional soccer player.

Cawley’s early playing career could be documented as far back at 2010, when he was chosen as the only Utahn in his age group to play in the Disney Showcase that December. Before then, he was a starter and team captain for the Layton-based LaRoca Futbol Club while working his way through the Olympic Developmental Team.

While he went scoreless at the Disney Showcase, Cawley said he learned a lot from playing tougher teams in the West Region as he prepared to play for the Viewmont High School soccer team the following spring.
