WEST BOUNTIFUL — St. Patrick’s Day fun is coming early this year.

Though the holiday itself isn’t until March 17, two Davis County groups will celebrate this weekend with music and dancing. Alan Marsden will perform a mix of Irish songs, show tunes and other classics in a free concert on March 8 at 7 p.m, at West Bountiful City Hall.

On March 9, the Celtic Beat Irish Dancers will perform at a St. Patrick’s Day Ceili at 7 p.m. at Fairfield Jr. High in Kaysville.

Marsden, a regular performer on the West Bountiful stage, still has a trace of the Irish accent he picked up during his years living in Belfast. According to Colleen Maloy, who organizes the concerts, he has a healthy dose of Irish charm as well.

“Alan enjoys chatting with and teasing his audiences, and there will be a few fun surprises,” she said. “He’s well known, and packs in a fun audience.”

Marsden will perform with his son-in-law Mike Leger on lead guitar, grandson Andy Leger on piano, and Doug Vandegrift on bass guitar.

“Andy’s just brilliant,” said Marsden. “I may be bragging a bit for him, but it’s true.”

For those who prefer their music out on the dance floor, the St. Patrick’s Day Ceili will offer plenty of dancing opportunities. In addition to performing, the Celtic Beat dancers will teach guests a basic Irish dance.

“It’s a way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and let your hair down,” said LaRae Thackery, director of the Celtic Beat dancers.

Tickets are $3 for adults, $4 per couple, and $2 for children ages 7-12. They are available at the door the night of the event. Refreshments, Irish T-shirts, and other small items will also be available.

West Bountiful City Hall is located at 550 N. 800 West. Fairfield Jr. High is located at 951 N. Fairfield Rd. in Kaysville. The Ceili will be held in the school’s cafeteria.
