CLINTON -- Firefighters were able to douse a small fire that firefighters say was started by a 6-year-old boy playing with a lighter on Saturday morning.

Clinton Fire Chief Dave Olsen said fire crews were called to the house near 1100 North and 1100 West, about 8:50 a.m., where they found a fire in a second-floor bedroom.

A mother and two children were at home a the time. All three made it out of the home safely, Olsen said.

It took crews about 20 minutes to extinguish the blaze. The fire caused minimal damage that was confined to the bedroom. Olsen didn't have an estimate of damage.

The chief said that fires like this can happen to anybody. He urged parents to keep matches and lighters out of reach of children.
