SALT LAKE CITY – A class action lawsuit has been filed in 3rd District Court against Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Lisa Steed and other troopers over alleged wrongful arrests for driving under the influence.
The complaint was filed Friday on behalf of those who may have been wrongly arrested for drunk driving by Steed and other troopers. The Utah Department of Public Safety had no comment on the particulars of the lawsuit.
“We will answer any claims against the Utah Highway Patrol, but we’ll do that in court,” said Utah Department of Public Safety spokesman Dwayne Baird.
Three attorneys, Robert Sykes, Michael Studebaker and Lorenzo Miller, say they have identified 30 individuals who could be added to the lawsuit, but they also contend there may be hundreds of Utahns wrongly arrested.
Steed was fired in November after she was accused of violating departmental policies, falsifying police reports and using questionable practices when making DUI arrests.
She has filed an appeal in order to be reinstated as a trooper.
