BOUNTIFUL — The public is invited to a free two-hour presentation, “How to Prevent Heart Disease, Cancer, Strokes and Many Related Diseases,” by Ed Fila, DDS. Fila started his focus on preventing heart attacks and related diseases after discovering he had arterial plaque some 15 years ago.

He, along with others, developed software to measure arterial plaque in the carotid artery, called the CIMT test, an acronym for carotid intima media thickness. The CIMT ultrasound is an early warning test, spotting potential heart disease, years or possibly decades, before traditional tests, according to Fila.

He was instrumental in commercializing the CIMT test and making it available to primary care doctors.

The class is not a marketing pitch and no products will be offered for sale. Attendees will be provided with an overview of the current research and knowledge of how to act wisely.

Participants will receive a free draft copy of “How to Reduce Your Risk for a Heart Attack or Stroke,” and a free PowerPoint overview of the new prevention model. A free CIMT ($150-$250 value) will be given to eight randomly selected patrons.
