CLEARFIELD — Young singers are needed for the new season of the Clearfield Community Children’s Choir, which starts practices Wednesday, Sept. 8.

Practices will be held each Wednesday from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Clearfield Community Center, 140 E. Center.

A former Bountiful resident is the impetus behind getting the choir going last year.

Beth Shurtleff worked with children and adult choirs since graduating from the University of South Carolina in choral music in 2004.

“After moving to Clearfield from Bountiful I was looking for an opportunity to conduct a choir in the area,” she is quoted as saying in the just-released Clearfield City Newsletter. “Mayor (Don) Wood had expressed interest in starting a children’s choir for quite a while, and I was glad to take up the challenge,” she said.

Shurtleff enjoys composing and has written several choral pieces, including an Easter cantata.

The children’s choir first performed last year in city holiday and 2010 spring concerts. Children ages 8 to 14 are invited. Auditions are required and may be arranged by calling 801-784-0106.
