CLEARFIELD – Police say the shooting that happened at a party in Clearfield Saturday night was gang related.

Clearfield Police Lt. Adam Malan said police are not disclosing the gang affiliation of the suspect(s), however, they don’t believe the victims were the intended targets.

Police have released the names of three of the victims: Evan Ward, 19, of Layton, received a gunshot wound to the throat; Brandon Backus, 19, of Roy, was shot in the head; and Shasha Pondel, 21 of Riverdale was shot in the back. A 16-year-old juvenile from Clearfield was shot in the foot.

Of the 40 individuals who were detained by police, seven juveniles and six adults tested positive for alcohol and were charged with unlawful consumption/possession of alcohol, Malan said.

Police still have no suspects in the case.
