Clearfield wins Region 6 wrestling tourney; Braves third

CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Falcons wrestling team finished the Region 6 tournament as region champions, beating Highland and Bountiful with a team score of 368.

The Braves’ third place finish came with a score of 293.5, with Woods Cross placing fifth with a score of 150.

The Falcons posted four wrestlers who finished with individual titles. Among them are Logan Swallow (106 pounds), Chris Kodele (113 pounds), Zeth Porter (126 pounds), and Dakota Wickel (220 pounds). The Braves also had four individual titlists, including Justin Horsley (132 pounds), Joey Barnett (138 pounds), Josh Barnett (145 pounds), and A.J. Tovey (195 pounds).

Woods Cross’ Davis Halls (126 pounds) and Sam Cottam (195 pounds) each finished in second place and were the Wildcats’ top placers in the tournament.

In the Utah 5A qualifier, the Vikings finished third in the Divisional B qualifier behind Layton (420 points) and Fremont (338.5 points). Viewmont totaled 321.5 points and had three individual champions in Taylor Porath (106 pounds), David Kim (126 pounds) and Tanner Law (152 pounds).

The State 4A and 5A wrestling finals will be held at Utah Valley University’s UCCU Center starting Wednesday, Feb. 13.
