BOUNTIFUL — Only art can capture rainbows.

Stan Elmer, this month’s featured artist at Bountiful’s Lamplight Gallery (170 S. Main), has mastered the technique. His exhibit, which will share an opening reception with Lamplight’s International Baccalaureate show on April 20 from 6-9 p.m., finds brilliant rainbows of color in everything from the slope of a mountain to the roof of a house.

One of the boldest uses of color in the exhibit is “Antelope Island Ranch,” which makes a familiar building seem fresh and strange with blue trees and a stretch of purple grass that is echoed in the slate-blue sky. “Yellow Apple,” a smaller painting, transforms a single piece of fruit into eight different shades of gold.

Other works play with the rainbow more subtly, using touches of unexpected color in subtle places to make a scene more vivid. In “Pond Town,” little flecks of orange along the shoreline make the blue of both the sky and the water that much deeper.
