FARMINGTON — The clerk’s area of the 2nd District courthouse in Farmington was shut down for a time Monday morning. Clerk duties were eventually relocated to the 2nd District Juvenile Court due to some flooding.

A control system used for fire alarm sprinklers malfunctioned above the ceiling, causing some freezing, said Nancy Volmer, with the Utah Courts Public Information Office.

As things began to heat up, it triggered the sprinkler system, causing “substantial flooding n the clerk’s area,” Volmer said. Court proceedings were delayed for about 20 minutes and the courts area evacuated, Volmer said.

For a time court patrons wanting to file documents were asked to go to the Bountiful or Layton 2nd District Court facilities, “but it’s my understanding they set up a temporary operation for the clerks in juvenile court,” Volmer said.

Court proceedings resumed in the early afternoon.

Other areas of the building, including the sheriff’s office, jail and county attorney’s office were not affected.
