Crime Briefs: Hamblin pleads not guilty

FARMINGTON — Gary Ellis Hamblin pleaded not guilty to seven counts of charges related to sexual abuse of a child.

Hamblin, 47, of Layton, will  be in court again on Sept. 12.

A registered sex offender, Hamblin is charged with two counts of rape of a child, three counts of sodomy of a child and two counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, all first-degree felonies.

He was arrested in June after a mother of a 13-year-old girl told police Hamblin had allegedly sexually abuse her daughter.

Hamblin pleaded guilty in 1995 to one count of attempted aggravated kidnapping and one count of forcible sexual abuse, both second-degree felonies. He  was sentenced to serve one to 15 years in the Utah State Prison. He was released from prison in 2005, according to the state’s sex offender registry.
