WOODS CROSS — Bountiful scored three second-half goals against Woods Cross to beat the Wildcats in soccer on Tuesday afternoon.
An hour later, the Wildcats’ volleyball team was able to down the Braves in five games in volleyball.
With the region soccer title already determined, the soccer match between Bountiful and Woods Cross was a more important game for the Wildcats, who needed a win or a Clearfield loss in order to stay the No. 2 seed in Region 6 heading into the state 4A soccer tournament.
After battling through a scoreless first half, Elena Medeiros, Ali Clay and Kennedy Merrick each knocked in second-half goals for Bountiful in order to collect the win, its’ sixth straight to close out the season.
Kyra Fawcett scored Woods Cross’ lone goal in the second half during the loss, the Wildcats’ fourth in region play.
The loss by Woods Cross did even more damage to the Wildcats in the final day of the regular season, however.
The Clearfield Falcons, who picked up their sixth region win Tuesday afternoon, bumped the Wildcats to a No. 3 seed heading into the 4A playoffs.
Clearfield will now open the playoffs at home, and Woods Cross will have to win on the road.
Tuesday evening, the Wildcats’ volleyball team stayed unbeaten in region play when they downed the Lady Braves in five sets (21-25, 25-19, 25-16, 23-25, 16-14).
The win was Woods Cross’ 20th of the season overall, second most in all of 4A.
