KAYSVILLE — Carlee Daw, a graduating senior at Davis High, was awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the Utah Jump$tart Coalition, working in partnership with America First Credit Union.
Daw was one of two Utah students to receive the scholarship in a competition aimed at helping students think about key financial decisions they will make after high school, according to a release.
While working as a teller at a local credit union during her high school years, Daw said she has seen many financial struggles people face.
“Many of my customers come to my window thinking they have thousands in their account only to be shocked to learn they are in overdraft,” she said, as quoted in the release. “Money is a powerful tool. Mismanage it and that tool becomes a destroying force and a creator of nightmares and bondage. But when money is monitored, invested and used wisely it can be the catalyst for all sorts of possibilities and dreams.”
