BOUNTIFUL – Next Wednesday night, Bountiful’s Main Street is going to turn into a party.

Before the formal festivities start on Aug. 8, Summerfest dancers and Davis County residents will gather together to turn the blacktop into one long dance floor. Starting at 7 p.m., dance groups from Taiwan, the Netherlands and more will show off group dances from their countries, then invite residents to join them.

“It’s usually children who go out and dance, but anyone is welcome,” said Emma Dugal, executive director of the Bountiful/Davis Art Center.

The groups take turns as the center of attention, first performing one or two numbers from their routines. Then comes the community dance, often a simple circle dance that lets participants follow the leader to learn the dance steps.

Though participation is always welcome, it’s not required.

“If people want to sit and watch, they can,” said Dugal. adding that bringing your own chairs might be a good idea. “There aren’t a lot of places to sit.”

The chairs might also be useful for dinner. Several local restaurants will set up booths starting at 6 p.m. Participating restaurants include Royal India, Mikado, Bun & Basket, Twisted Lemon, Scoopology, China Platter and Cutler’s Cookies.

Tickets cost $1 each, and all meal iteams will be cost somewhere between 1-5 tickets.

“You can eat and enjoy the show,” said Dugal. “It should be fun.”
