SYRACUSE — Entering the final series of the regular season, the Davis Darts and Syracuse Titans baseball teams each had similar 11-1 Region 1 records.

With the region title up for the grabs to the series’ winner, it was important for both teams to win the initial game and claim control of their destiny.

And thanks to Zac Fuller’s efforts both at the plate and on the mound, the Darts were able to pull away early and take home a 8-0 shutout victory over the Titans.

Fuller had a full day’s work for the Darts Tuesday afternoon, controlling the Titans’ bats by striking out 13 hitters while allowing just three hits on the mound. At the plate Fuller had a pair of hits that helped lead a nine-hit, eight-run charge that saw the Darts score in every inning except the first and fifth inning.

After being held scoreless in the first inning, Davis scored five runs in the following three innings to take a commanding lead. Davis completely shut the door on the Titans by scoring two more runs in the sixth and another run in the seventh while Fuller kept Syracuse off the scoreboard for the rest of the game. The Darts were also aided by the Syracuse defense, who committed five errors in the game against Davis’ two.

Fuller’s win was his sixth of the season, leading the team in that category. Jason Jourdan took the loss for Syracuse, his second of the season.

The Darts have won nine straight ball games and are 18-2 overall, losing only to Weber during region play.

As of press time, the Darts needed one more victory to claim the Region 1 title and a No. 1 seed heading into the 5A baseball playoffs, which begin Tuesday afternoon. Should the Darts claim the No. 1 seed they will likely play Copper Hills at home.

The Darts and Titans final game of the season will occur Friday afternoon at Syracuse High School. Game time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

The Clipper will have an updated score of Wednesday's game available upon completion.
