BOUNTIFUL — The Darts, Vikings and Wildcats staked their claim into the 5A and 4A football playoff picture by picking up wins over Weber, West and Clearfield, respectively.
Missing the chance to claim the region title outright, Bountiful’s game last Friday against East was disappointing. Braves fell 47-13.
At Weber High School, the Darts picked up their second region win of the season by taking down the Warriors 43-24. Davis scored 22 points in the first quarter alone, aided by Gage Cook’s two touchdown passes. The Darts took a 29-7 halftime lead.
Davis scored two more touchdowns in the second half to put away the game and claim a spot in the 5A playoffs from Region 1. Cook led the charge with two passing and one rushing touchdown, and Ashton Reinhold, Jonah White and Parker Rose each scored a rushing touchdown in the win.
Davis’ final regular season game Friday will be against Northridge. With a win, they would play as the No. 2 seed from the region.
Following a rough preseason and an opening Region 2 loss to Granger, the Vikings picked up their second region win in a row as they beat West 35-0 at West High School.
Viewmont’s 21-point second quarter helped put away the game for good when the Vikings claimed a 28-0 halftime lead. The Vikings added another touchdown in the second half, and the defense picked up its first shutout of the season.
With its team’s second region victory, Viewmont has likely claimed a playoff spot. It has two games remaining on its schedule. The Vikings will host Kearns on Thursday night in what will be the team’s final home game this season. A win could put Viewmont near the top of the Region 2 standings.
Woods Cross also claimed its second region victory of the season Friday by scoring 33 first-half points on its way to a 47-0 rout.
The Wildcats rushed for 235 yards against the Falcons defense on Friday, scoring three of Woods Cross’ six offensive touchdowns for the night. Sean Barton led the rushing game with 87 yards on nine carries with a score, and Lawrence Brown rushed for 59 yards on seven carries with a touchdown.
The third rushing touchdown went to Skyler Farnes, who carried the ball five times for 50 yards. He also completed 11-of-17 passes for 129 yards and two passing touchdowns.
Luke Jowers also threw a touchdown pass to Xequille Harry, the duo’s only connection in that game.
Marcus Teller led the receiving corps with five catches, 86 yards and a touchdown.
Alton Brown led the defense with nine tackles. Jake Kocherhans picked up eight tackles with half a sack and Deion Saumalu had seven tackles with a sack in the win.
Bountiful’s game against the Leopards started as a defensive battle: the Braves only trailed East by 13 points at halftime.
The Leopards posted 34 second-half points thanks to four Bountiful turnovers, however, and the Braves were handed their first region loss of the season.
Of Bountiful’s four turnovers, three were lost fumbles. An injury to starting quarterback Jordan Hayes had Taylor Holman enter the game in the first half, and Holman did well by throwing for a touchdown and an interception in the loss.
