LAYTON - For all those who missed out on the first round of Bill Cosby tickets, here’s your second chance.

Though tickets for Cosby’s Aug. 6 appearance at the Ed Kenley Amphitheater in Layton have already sold out, the Davis Arts Council persuaded him to come a day early and perform a second show. Tickets for the new performance, scheduled for Aug. 5, went on sale May 23 at 9 a.m.

“We’ve never sold out a show before the day of the actual performance, let alone before the summer even began,” said Kirt Bateman, executive director of the Davis Arts Council. “I knew that Bill Cosby would be popular, but I wasn’t prepared for just how beloved he is across every generation.”

Normally, additional shows would be scheduled after the initial performance, but the arts council already has country musician Danielle Bradbury booked for Aug. 7. Luckily, there was room earlier in August, with the nearest concert on that side being Herman’s Hermits on July 30.

Still, there were other challenges.

“I really, really wanted Cosby to do a second performance, and he was available, but it’s a lot more complicated than just scheduling and ticket sales,” said Bateman. “We would have to have a corporate sponsor so that we could afford to bring him and still keep his ticket prices where they were.”

Alamexo Restaurant, which is sponsoring the Aug. 6 show, offered to share sponsorship to allow the arts council to look for another partner. When Lifetime Products stepped in, plans for the show were finalized.

“I’m thrilled that the hundreds of people that have tried to get tickets after the first performance sold out have the opportunity to see this Icon of American comedy,” said Bateman.

Tickets can be purchased online at tickets.davisarts.org, by phone at 801-546-8575, or in person at their offices, located at 445 Wasatch Drive in Layton.

You can also get tickets to any of the Davis Arts Council’s “Summer Nights With the Stars” shows the same way. The concert series is set to start June 14, with an appearance by Ryan Shupe and the Rubberband.

“With the excitement surrounding Cosby, we don’t want people to forget that award-winning groups such as Indigo Girls, Thompson Square, Danielle Bradbery, and Blood Sweat and Tears are also coming to Layton,” said Dawn Brandvold, president of the DAC Board of Trustees. “This year, with the addition of Bill Cosby, the DAC cements its place as a great place not only to see a show, but a great place for performers.”
