LAYTON — Children from north-end Davis County schools competed in classroom and school spelling bees, and the winners of those competitions advanced to the north end county semifinals, held Feb. 7 at Layton High School. These children, grades two through six, will advance to the finals along with winners of the Feb. 19 south-end competition at Woods Cross High School. BOUNTIFUL — The staff of the Davis Clipper and Utah Islander are looking forward to the Spelling Bee semi-finals for the south end of the county, and we are pleased for all the community support we have benefited from in the process.

The bee will be held tonight, Feb. 19, at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of Bountiful High School.

Competing will be winners from south-end elementary schools that participated as well as home schoolers. Second- through sixth-graders were eligible. Winners have received invitations from their schools about the bee. Registration begins at 6:15 p.m.

The final Davis County Spelling Bee will take place at Woods Cross High School on March 21, 2013. Winners will be highlighted in the Davis Clipper and Utah Islander and online her or at Utahislander.com. All proceeds will go toward scholarships for winning spellers, who will also receive prizes contributed by the Bountiful Rotary Club.

The north-end semi-final spelling bee was held earlier this month at Layton High School, and 14 winners will progress to the final bee. There, they will compete against south-end winners and sixth, seventh and eighth graders who won their school bees. All contestants will compete together, regardless of grade level.
