DAVIS COUNTY — “Going Places” showcased the talent and ambition of this year’s Davis County Jr. Miss Scholarship program.
Held at Viewmont High School, the program featured violin, dance, vocal solos, piano, polynesian poi ball, and a Marimba solo. Camille Folsom, Haley Beckstrand, and Sarah Oldham were this year’s finalists.
The platform for the year, “Be Your Self Program,” had a goal to teach principles of healthy living, scholarship, ambition, involvement, and responsibility. The contestants were to demonstrate skills in each area, as well as give back to the community.
Participants worked at the Bountiful Food Pantry to move 7,000 lbs. of food, cleaned and organized homes for hosts from the Creative Arts Academy and Bountiful School of Ballet, and also collected books for Alyza’s Foundation.
Close to $5,000 was given in scholarship money.
Next year’s program will be held in June and is open to girls beginning their junior year of high school this fall. To apply, visit www.AJM.org. For questions, call Derena Bell, 801-299-0977 or Barrie Giles, 801-295-0350.
