KAYSVILLE — High school bands from across Utah and Idaho will meet on the field at Davis High next week for the 39th annual Davis Cup Invitational.

The invitational is the oldest marching band competition in the state, according to organizers, and will run from 12:45 p.m. to 10 p.m. on the field east of the school, at 325 S. Main.

Smaller bands compete first and Davis High’s Rose-Parade-bound band will take the field at the end of the evening.

Judges from California, Colorado and Oklahoma have been invited to determine the best of the 33 bands, which will be divided into divisions according to size.

Judges will determine winners based on music, visual presentation, percussion and color guard.

Tickets to the event, which are $5 per person or $20 for a family, are valid throughout the day. Proceeds from the competition will help finance the band’s trip to California for the 124th Tournament of Roses Parade on Jan. 1, 2013.
