KAYSVILLE -- Several members of the Kaysville City Council attended an open house Tuesday at the Davis High School library for a new set of books donated by the city. Kaysville City Council originally planned to make the donation from the Blood Trust fund, but later decided against it to avoid legal issues. "Instead of giving endowment fund money we would allow money from the general fund," said Councilman Chris Snell.

Kaysville donated $11,200 to the Davis High School library, the same amount from the original Endowment fund offer. The amount was based on a request from Davis High librarian Elaine Finlinson for needed library material.

Most of the money was used towards books for AP classes, including eight AP American Heritage classes. Snell also reported that several fiction and interactive books were purchased as well.

The city gave the donation to the high school in August, but it took several months to acquire all the books. Books purchased from the donation will be labeled to reflect that they were donated by Kaysville City. Snell was impressed by the materials bought with the donation.

"It was a very enlightening trip," said Snell. "I think it was money well spent."

Several complaints arose as to the use of the endowment fund for the high school during the summer of 2006. Some felt the endowment fund was specifically set up to be used for funding the Kaysville Library.

The Endowment Board has given $10,000 of the Blood Trust Fund to the Davis County Library system since the Kaysville library joined the Davis County system. The Endowment Board is made up of members of the Kaysville City Council.

The $10,000 will be used toward requests from the Davis County library system for various children's books. The Davis County library used $3,000 in 2006 and plans to use $7,000 in 2007.
