BOUNTIFUL — Davis County home sales and prices are on the upswing.
That’s coupled with a big hike in home building permits issued, a report issued earlier this month by Cushman & Wakefield Commerce Real Estate Solutions said.
Home prices rose by 6.5 percent between 2012 and 2011, for an average sale price of $210,000.
During the same period, sales of existing single-family homes in Davis County rose by nearly 10 percent, from 796 in 2011 to 875.
New home construction also saw a boost, the report said, with building permits issued for single family homes rising from 197 last year to 337, a 71.1 percent hike.
In fact, Davis County registered by far the highest percentage increase of single family home permits among Salt Lake, Utah, Weber and Washington Counties.
Weber and Salt Lake Counties saw drops in the number of permits issued.
Statewide, Utah posted its 25th consecutive month of job gains by July. At 2 percent or 24,500 jobs, that was the slowest monthly job growth in 13 months, the report said.
In addition, it was also the first month in the past 18 months where Utah was not among the top five states in the nation in terms of job growth. It ranked 10th.
Utah ranked third in May and second behind only North Dakota in job growth in June. The Department of Workforce Services believes July was an anomaly and that August with return to hob growth rate between 2.3 and 2.5 percent.
Professional and business services have led the job growth at 7,300 positions. That sector includes professionals such as lawyers, engineers and architects, scientists and business services (establishments supporting day-to-day operation of other entities).
Manufacturing posted 5,000 new jobs, which the report said was surprising, and construction jobs dropped by 900.
Healthcare posted 4,300 new jobs, posting recent percentage gains of 1.1 to 2.8 percent С far below the 4-to-6 percent annual rate of growth over the last decade.
