BOUNTIFUL — Democrat Brad Asay will square off against state Representative Paul Ray, R-District 13, in the Nov. 6 elections. That district covers West Point and parts of Clinton and Sunset in Davis County.

Both candidates provided statements about their campaigns.

“I have been a lifelong resident of Davis County, a product of Davis County Schools, served an L.D.S. Mission, graduated from Weber State University, and am a public school teacher in Ogden, Utah,” Asay wrote. “I made the decision to run for the Utah House of Representatives because of my commitment to education and my desire to increase funding for Utah’s public schools. Other issues that I will tackle as a representative are increased accessibility to mass transit to promote cleaner air, workers’ rights, affordable health care for families and equal rights for all citizens under the law.”

Ray’s statement focused on his commitment to his constituents.

Utah’s heritage and strength is deeply rooted in its people and quality of life,” he wrote. “I am running for state representative in District 13 so I can work to protect and preserve this quality of life. I want to ensure your children and mine have the best opportunities possible. My representation means you have an advocate in the Utah House of Representatives, someone who is willing to fight for your views and needs. I am committed to this community and seeing the best happen in the future. I want to make a difference by taking your agenda, not my own, to the legislative session.”

Editor’s note: Asay’s name was left out of the Davis Decides special section on Oct. 25, and his name and statement were reported incorrectly. This article reflects the corrected information.
