Five Davis County teens, including Madison Taylor, Summer Sloan, Marin Paris Cline, Haley Sorenson and Lauren Johnson (from left), took home honors and earned scholarships in this year’s Distinguished Young Women competition. Lauren Johnson was named Utah’s Distinguished Young Woman for 2014 and will compete in the national competition in Mobile, Ala., next summer. Maren Cline was named second runner-up and Summer Sloan, third runner-up. All three students who finished in the top five are from Woods Cross. All together, the five Davis County participants were awarded $25,500 in cash scholarsihps for their post-high school education. The program is established to help girls “develop their potential through a program of service, scholastics, interview, talent, fitness and self-expression,” according to an email from Barrie Giles. More information on future competitions is available at distinguishedyw.org.
