We appreciate the opportunity the city gave us to learn tennis as kids. It was from the city lessons that we were able to learn the game and make it a life- long sport. Bountiful City is to be commended for the way in which they have maintained the city’s tennis courts.
We do have a concern about the way in which the city’s tennis courts are currently being used. When we go to play on various courts throughout the city we have found that courts are being taken by tennis instructors running classes or tennis camps, with numerous kids. These are not the city sponsored classes which provide a service to the community, but outside instructors running their business on the city’s courts.
As citizens of Bountiful we feel the courts should not be used to run a private business. The courts need to be kept open for the play of the citizens whose tax money goes towards their upkeep.
If there happens to be an open court it is very distracting when balls from these lessons are constantly going across the court and instructions are being yelled to kids. Something needs to be done to stop the practice of letting public courts be used by a business.
If not can anyone put up a stand and sell items on the city’s tennis courts? Or teach group swim lessons at the recreation center, or use one of the city offices to conduct a business?

Editor’s note: While Bountiful officials welcome all those who are taking advantage of area tennis courts, they are aware of the situation described above and are already considering proposals to ensure fair access for all. More details will be available soon.
