BOUNTIFUL — By August, South Davis residents should be able to get their Dunkin’ Donuts fix locally.

That’s when a new store is set to open in an existing building on the northwest corner of 100 E. 500 South in Bountiful.

“We’ve signed a lease and architectural plans have been put together for a complete interior and exterior renovation,” said Mitch Lowe, general counsel and vice president of development for Sizzling Platter/Sizzling Donuts. That firm is franchisee for up to 24 planned Dunkin’ Donut locations in Utah.

The Bountiful store will not only sell donuts but breakfast and other sandwiches, as well as the chain’s signature coffee, hot chocolate and other drinks, he said.

It will be open until 10 or 11 p.m., Lowe said.

“In excess of 25” full and part-time employees will be hired to staff the store, Lowe said.

“The design and style of building will be contemporary,” he said. “We will stay within the walls but you will not be able to tell that it was an Iceberg” restaurant previously.

“It will be a remodel, not a rebuild,” Lowe said. “But we will be spending a significant amount of money on renovation.”

FFKR Architects of Salt Lake City has been retained for design work. A general contractor has yet to be selected, he said.

Bountiful City Planner Aric Jensen met with project representatives last week, he said. Building and sign permits will be required for the project to proceed.

The expansion includes eight stores north of Salt Lake City. In Davis County, Bountiful is the only location announced thus far. However, Lowe said “we are actively looking at locations in Layton and Clinton.”

Starbucks is also making changes in Bountiful. The local franchise is moving to 425 W. 500 South and away from the 175 North location. It will be in the parking lot in front of the old Sports Authority building with a fall opening likely, said City Planner Aric Jensen. A drive-up window is planned for the building’s west side. The west side driving approach off of 500 South will be removed, pending Utah Department of Transportation approval, which will also be needed for modifications planned for the east side approach. The store will include a small inside dining area.

The Bountiful City Council has given final site plan approval but a building permit has yet to be applied for, Jensen said. The Planning Commission will review the issue Tuesday, May 7.
