SALT LAKE CITY -- Two exhibits at the Museum of Church History and Art, will focus on the life of LDS founder and prophet Joseph Smith. Davis County residents are invited to view both. A new exhibit, "Joseph Smith: Prophet of the Restoration," opens Feb. 5 and continues though Jan. 15, 2006. The exhibition was part of the 200th anniversary celebration of Joseph Smith's birth. It portrays how Smith was prepared, tutored and refined for his calling as the church's first prophet.

The exhibit features historical documents, works of art, period artifacts, and media presentations about his life. It includes a replica of a portion of the Smith family log home, where young Joseph lived when he had his first vision.

"Follow the Prophet," opened in December. It displays images created by Latter-day Saint children from throughout the world.

Nearly 1,000 drawings were submitted to the museum by Primary children, ages 3-11. More than 200 of the works were chosen for the exhibition. The children illustrated some aspect of the life of a biblical, Book of Mormon, or modern-day prophet.

The exhibit continues through Feb. 27.

Other ongoing exhibits include; "Scenes from the Land of Promise: Book of Mormon Paintings by Walter Rane"; and "You Have a Family Tree."

Museum hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. through 7 p.m., Saturday, Sunday and most holidays, including Presidents' Day.
