KAYSVILLE -- Softball teams from all over the state convened this weekend for state supremacy. Unfortunately, for the 18-U Express, they came just short of reaching that goal. Comprised of many girls from Layton High, Express was considered one of the favorites heading into the tournament at Barnes Park in Kaysville. They ran into the team that was considered the favorite, the Thunderbirds, a team of girls from the southern Salt Lake Valley. The Thunderbirds came out on top 4-2 in the championship. Express was led by Layton High standout Jaycee Jensen, who provided some solid hitting throughout the tournament, but they couldn't muster enough offense to take down the Thunderbirds.
Many of the same teams will now gear up to compete in the Firecracker Tournament at Park City in just over a week.
