FARMINGTON – The woman who was shot in the eye by a Morgan County sheriff’s deputy on Nov. 24 following a high-speed chase pleaded not guilty in 2nd District Court on Monday.
The chase ended in South Weber.
Kristine Nicole Biggs, 41, of Rock Springs, Wyo., entered her plea to multiple charges including two third-degree felony counts of aggravated assault, a third-degree felony charge of failure to respond to the command of a police officer, a class B misdemeanor charge of driving on a suspended license, a class C misdemeanor charge of having an open container in a vehicle on a highway, a class C misdemeanor charge of using license plates registered to another vehicle and a class C misdemeanor charge of failure to register a vehicle.
Biggs, who appeared in court wearing an eye patch, was booked into the Davis County Jail on Dec. 1 after being released from a local hospital, where she was treated for a gunshot wound to the eye.
She remains in jail on no bail.
According to police reports, a Morgan County sheriff’s deputy tried to pull Biggs over shortly before 10 p.m. on Nov. 24 because she had a headlight out.
She led the deputy and Utah Highway Patrol troopers on a 32-mile chase, running over spike strips that flattened three of her tires, police said. In a residential area of South Weber, Biggs allegedly turned her vehicle around and hit two police cars. It was at that time the Morgan County deputy shot Biggs.
