The forecast continues with one team still remaining in the 4A State football playoffs.
Woods Cross, winners last week, extended the forecast for one more week as the Wildcats look to make a trip to the finals for the first time in over 20 years.
Win or lose, this will be the last forecast of the season. Fans should look forward to our Winter Sports Preview section, coming out next week, as schools transition from outdoor to indoor sports.
Woods Cross: 24
Defending champion Timpview will once again get a shot at beating Woods Cross to get to the State 4A finals next week, but I don’t think it’s going to happen.
One reason is the defense, which has been stellar throughout the entire 2013 season to date.
Last week’s 21-7 win marked the eighth time in 11 games that the Wildcats have allowed 14 points or less in a contest.
Collectively, the secondary has put together a performance worthy of admiring, picking off four passes last week and forcing several turnovers in a win over Box Elder the week before.
The offense has been very steady for Justin Spencer, but the Thunderbirds will be hard to defeat.
If Woods Cross’ secondary can force some turnovers and give the offense a short field to work with, they will have the ability to score touchdowns in a hurry.
This is a tough call, but I believe the Wildcats can win this one.
Until next season.
Last week: 1-0
This season: 29-5
